SUPPORTING THE WORK OF THE CLINICIAN

One of the market's most advanced platforms
Columna is one of the market’s most advanced eHealth platforms. It is now in service in one in four Danish hospitals, making it the most widely used system in Denmark.
Complete integrated clinical workplace
The five Columna modules together form a complete, integrated clinical workplace, providing efficient support to the work of health professionals. Columna provides doctors, nurses and medical secretaries with a way to carry out the majority of their clinical, planning and patient administration registration duties via a single one-stop solution.
Increasing efficiency and patient safety
Columna contributes to simplifying working processes at hospitals and making them more efficient, as well as making it possible to do more to ensure coherent care pathways and increase patient safety. At the same time, Columna automatically summarises and presents valuable information that management can use for better planning and decision making.
A patient is undergoing an ambulatory care examination at the hospital.
The doctor decides that the patient should be admitted.
When the patient arrives at the department, the nurse admits the patient using the Columna Patient Administration.
A standard plan is laid out in the electronic patient record, which ensures the standard procedures and guidelines are followed. Records, blood tests, x-ray and assessment of medicine are now ready.
On the basis of tests and own examination, the doctor makes a journal note in his tablet.
The subsequent treatment is assessed and evaluated.
The Columna Clinical Information System overview function provides a total overview of all of the results for the patient.
The doctor decides to adjust the patient’s medicine via the medicine module.
The medicine module helps the doctor to make a selection from a range of standard drugs.
When the nurse shall give the prescribed drugs, she can see in the administration overview when she is to give them to the patient. The coloured marking indicates as to whether the medicine is poured or given.
The nurse documents that the drug has been given in the medicine module.
At the same time the hospital’s medicine robot prepares the patient’s medicine for the coming days.
After his ward rounds, the doctor decides that laboratory tests should be carried out. The doctor personally requisitions the tests via the requisition and response overview in Columna.
The doctor automatically receives a message on the mobile phone when the test results are available.
The doctor can see the test results in the electronic patient journal and see the development and compare previous results.
The patient’s journal is reviewed at the conference to determine any further course of treatment.
The patient’s plan is updated, a sputum test, x-ray of lungs and physiotherapy are prescribed.
When supervision is ordered, it appears on a task list which can be accessed by the physiotherapy department.
In this way, Columna Clinical Information System is a completely integrated IT workplace that provides access to all of the relevant patient information.
It results in more streamlined work processes at the hospitals, increased efficiency and patient safety.
