The Municipality of Norrköping is the first municipality in Sweden to purchase the Cicero library system as a complete solution. The purchase is taking place after a two-year period, in which 20 of the municipality’s school libraries have used Cicero to create a better overview of the libraries’ tasks and materials.

Many of these books are bought with the money prize from Systematic’s Joy of Reading Award that went to the South African reading campaign Nal’ibali in 2019. The Oodi Central Library in Helsinki, Finland, is a public library in the truest sense of the name, one where the citizens of the city have had a great influence in both content and design. The impressive building has just been named Public Library of the Year 2019 by the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) and the software company Systematic.

On Sunday 2 June at Dokk1 in Aarhus, Denmark, the Nal’ibali - Reading for Enjoyment Campaign project in South Africa was honoured for its work with fundamentally transforming the culture of reading in South Africa. The USD 10,000 prize that accompanies this award will send more books into the hands of the country’s children, says Nal’ibali director Jade Jacobsohn.

The jury has now agreed on the four shortlisted libraries for the 2019 IFLA/Systematic Public Library of the Year award. All four will now be considered for selection as the world’s best new public library.

Six inspiring reading initiatives from three different continents are nominated for the $10.000 Joy of Reading Award. The award is to be presented by the President of The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Glòria Pérez-Salmerón, on the 2nd of June in Aarhus, Denmark.
