Nordic Interest Soars in Simulation, Combat Training Tech

The future of streamlined military training and combat software is found at defence industry players, including Systematic. C2 Simulation Gateway and SitaWare Frontline are mentioned in an article on DefenceNews’ website.

What the media said16 November 2015

“HELSINKI — push for improved simulated training and battlefield protection for troops is driving higher levels of research, development and investment among Nordic militaries.

They are looking for technologies that are cost-effective and readily deployable, whilst interoperability of equipment is becoming a more critical factor in material acquisitions”

Nowadays, some national defence budgets are being cut and need to streamline their processes, including their training. (DefenceNews website 10 October 2015)SitaWare HQ in useReducing costs with C2 Simulation Gateway

In collaboration with IFAD, Systematic has developed the integrated simulation system C2 Simulation Gateway, providing the Danish Army with a comprehensive training tool. C2 Sim GW combines the SitaWare interoperable C2 Suite consisting of Edge, Frontline and Headquarters with an interface that can operate with the vast majority of simulation systems. This means that troops can train in a simulated, yet realistic environment using the same software they use in actual operations. This streamlines training time, reduces costs and reinforces more traditional tactical and operational training.

The agreement gives the Danish Army a national industry partnership that provides them with a better and more modern educational environment, and training systems than they already have today

SitaWare Frontline in the Danish tanks

One of the integrated elements in the C2 Sim GW is the SitaWare Frontline solution that provides real time situational awareness of friendly and hostile units during combat. SitaWare Frontline is now being implemented in the Danish Army’s Leopard 2 tanks and helps give commanders an overview of friendly force tracking and enemy sightings. In addition, the data from the sensors on the tanks is automatically captured by Frontline, displayed on its electronic map and relayed to other units in the network.
The units, whether comprising-transports or fighting vehicles, are integrated with Frontline's sophisticated C2 system to provide headquarters with a real time update of each vehicle's position and status on their graphical display and Common Operational Picture. This can speed up and support the decision making process in critical combat situations. In addition, the battle management system component provides the situational awareness picture that can prevent friendly fire.
The SitaWare Frontline software will be put into operation in more than 400 heavy and light armored fighting and transport vehicles in the Danish Army’s fleet.
