A Systematic IT solution is being used to modernise Danish police vehicles
Bifrost is a solution that supports the needs of the police via features operated from a 10-inch screen.
The police do their utmost every day to create a safe society, whether working from a police patrol car or the police station. To solve this task in the most expedient way, Systematic has developed a system – Bifrost – which makes it much easier and faster for police officers in the cars to contact their colleagues at the police station. Bifrost represents a new generation of mobile solutions by bringing together all the previous functionalities in a single computer, and is now installed in approx. 450 police vehicles.
Path to improved efficiency and a better working environment
In the past, the data terminals in the police vehicles required the user to handle many separate components as far as radio operation, emergency lights/sirens, video, GPS etc. were concerned. A simpler and more intuitive solution was required which could ensure a better working environment. In addition, it was vital that the system was scalable, and could be kept up to date so that it always matched the needs of the Danish National Police.
10-inch all-in-one solution
Our vision was to create a system that was capable of supporting the operational needs of the police. Bifrost boasts functions such as GPS navigation, emergency lights/siren control, automatic number-plate recognition, video recording and transmitting tasks/messages/control points which all support the work of the police and save time in critical situations. All these features are integrated into the user interface, and operated via a 10-inch touch screen on the vehicle dashboard. Bifrost even optimises itself for day and night use while driving.
Intuitive system with minimal training
Bifrost was fully tested in close collaboration with users, and considerable emphasis was placed on ensuring a simple and intuitive user experience to minimise the need for training. Systematic handles the delivery, support, maintenance and further development of the system, and following the successful deployment of Bifrost in police cars, the system has also been installed on police motorcycles and in civilian patrol cars.
