Research project about positioning technology at Aalborg University Hospital becomes an export success

The last six years hospital porters at Aalborg University Hospital have used positioning technology to the support of service logistics. The technology is developed in a cooperation with Systematic and the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University and has become an international export success.

An article from the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University evaluates on a research project done by the department and Systematic. The outcome of the research project is the application “Task Management”, which in a single place controls the workflow for the hospital porters at Aalborg University Hospital. The use of the application shows a positive effect and has resulted in fewer errors and reduced waiting time. For the hospital porters the introduction to the application has led to efficiency improvement of their work flow.

At Systematic the solution is called “Columna Service Logistics” and is extended to being able to track beds, trolleys and other hospital equipment. Those are all challenges at most hospitals. The solution is an integrated part of the work flow in the Central Denmark Region and the North Denmark Region. The solution is also of international interest, and Systematic have implemented Columna Service Logistics at hospitals in Scotland, Australia and Finland.
