Dominion Energy chooses Systematic’s SITE software solution for Virginia offshore wind farms
Market leader in marine management software, Systematic, is to supply the marine coordination system to manage logistics and safety compliance on Dominion Energy’s 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project.
Dominion Energy, which is developing the largest offshore wind farm in the United States – the 2.6-gigawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, has selected Systematic’s SITE software solution to ensure the safety of personnel working in and around the 112,800-acre commercial lease area.
SITE is a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS)solution for planning transfers to and from wind farm assets, providing a situational overview for location tracking and monitoring the exact location of personnel working offshore.
Dominion Energy currently operates a 12-megawatt pilot project with the first two offshore wind turbines in U.S. federal waters. The construction of this wind farm in 2020 was managed by Danish developer Ørsted, and during the construction process, Dominion Energy learned how Systematic SITE ensured a safe workplace offshore. The construction of an additional 176 turbines is planned to begin in 2024 and be complete in 2026, providing enough clean and affordable energy to power up to 660,000 Virginia customers’ home.
“Safety is one of our core values at Dominion Energy and using Systematic’s proven SITE technology to manage logistics for Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind will allow our crews to perform their jobs safely in an offshore environment,” said Michael Lundsgaard, Dominion Energy director of offshore wind.
Huge potential for wind energy in the U.S.
Systematic’s SITE software is the preferred partner of the world’s leading offshore operators used by energy providers such as Ørsted, RWE Renewables, Vattenfall and Copenhagen Offshore Partners. SITE is currently used at 32 offshore wind farms to manage logistics and safety compliance. Around 30,000 offshore workers have been inducted with SITE to work at offshore projects. These numbers make SITE the most popularly used marine coordination software globally.
Claus Byskov, Systematic’s Senior Manager for Digital Transformation, is delighted to support Dominion Energy in its efforts to lead the transition from fossil fuel-based power generation to renewable, clean energy in the US.
“We are excited to partner with the pioneers of renewable energy. The potential for wind energy in the U.S. is huge and what Dominion Energy is doing here paves the way for net zero-emissions and creates a better future for all,” he said.
When fully constructed in 2026, the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project will deliver clean, renewable energy to the grid and will avoid millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
