Aarhus University Hospital (AUH) was recently certified at stage 6 on the EMRAM scale, which measures a hospital’s use of technology in the treatment of patients. The scale goes from 0 to 7, with 7 being the highest degree of digitisation possible, and in Europe only 5 hospitals have been certified at stage 7, while 152 hospitals - including AUH - are at stage 6.
Among other things, the certification is awarded to AUH because of the hospital's use of Closed Loop Medication Administration, which is part of Systematic’s electronic health record, Columna. With the system, patient treatments are digitally supported through advanced technology including medication robots, bar code systems, and continuous documentation in the electronic health record. All this ensures that the right patient always gets the right medication and dosage at the right time, which in the end improves patient safety.
For many years, AUH has worked with patient safe medication administration. Today, the solution is in use at the department of infectious diseases and the goal is to implement it across the entire hospital. The certification is officially awarded at the HIMSS Europe 18 conference in May 2018, where nearly 2,000 healthcare IT professionals and clinical leaders are expected to participate.
On the AUH website you can learn more about the certification.
