Systematic and Herlev Hospital are expanding their cooperation. In spring 2019, Herlev Hospital will receive a new Systematic IT solution that makes the day-to-day work easier for both nurses and porters

In a hospital with almost 1000 beds, it is important to know exactly where those beds are located, and what state they are in – whether they are clean, or need to be moved, for example. This is why Herlev Hospital in Denmark has recently signed a contract with Systematic for a new IT solution that will make the staff’s jobs easier by provide a better overview of the hospital beds – where they are and the condition they are in.

“The new solution makes it possible to track all the beds in the hospital, with the result that both porters and nurses can quickly and easily get the information they need about where each bed is. In a large hospital like Herlev, a lot of time gets spent every day on dealing with information about moving and cleaning beds, and we are looking forward to delivering an IT solution that will optimise the logistics associated with this work,” explains Systematic Senior Group Vice President Henrik Jespersen.

For example, healthcare staff on the ward can use a tablet to register whether a bed needs cleaning or if it requires some kind of repair work. This makes communication about the many beds more effective as well as freeing up time for other tasks. This particular IT solution is also in use at another major Danish hospital – Aarhus University Hospital – which originally helped develop the solution.

As hospitals grow steadily bigger, IoT solutions provide an obvious opportunity to optimise workflows and create a more efficient flow in day-to-day hospital operations

“The bed management system uses the Systematic Internet of Things (IoT) Platform, which is now in use at increasing numbers of hospitals. An IoT platform provides a unique overview of the exact location of a wide range of physical items, as well as where both people and things have moved. As hospitals grow steadily bigger, IoT solutions provide an obvious opportunity to optimise workflows and create a more efficient flow in day-to-dayhospital operations,“ points out Henrik Jespersen.

In addition to the Systematic Bed Management system, Herlev Hospital has been using the Systematic Task Management system since April 2018. This enables nursing staff to digitally create tasks that porters and service assistants can then access via their smartphones.
