Capital Region of Denmark goes live with a foundation for region-wide hospital tracking

The Capital Region of Denmark has gone live with a regional tracking platform that collects data from any tracking infrastructure across its hospitals – regardless of vendor or source.

Hospitals already run on tracking data. Case carts, equipment and goods all move through systems that record where things are. The problem is that this data usually stays locked to the infrastructure that produced it, so every new tracking need turns into a separate, isolated project.

The Capital Region of Denmark has gone live with a regional tracking platform that changes how this works. Built on Systematic’s IoT platform together with Lyngsoe Systems’ tracking technology, it is designed to collect tracking events from any tracking infrastructure across the region’s hospitals, regardless of vendor or source.

In practice, the region now has a single, live foundation that any future tracking use case can build on, rather than a one-off system tied to a single application.

The first use case live on the platform is sterile flow. Across nine hospitals served by two automated sterile services facilities, the platform tracks sterile case carts and tells surgery wards when to expect their equipment. A second use case manages the cages used in goods reception. For ward staff, that means planning around an accurate picture of what is arriving and when, instead of chasing or guessing.

The wider value is in the foundation itself. Because the platform is open and vendor-neutral, the same infrastructure can support further tracking and workflow use cases as the region’s needs grow – including real-time location of equipment across its sites.

For a healthcare system where there is no room for error, that kind of reliable, shared foundation is what makes scaling possible.
