Systematic has developed Central Denmark Region’s EMR, Columna

Central Denmark Region has chosen to prioritise the electronical medical record (EMR) and in that connection, Systematic has designed, developed and implemented its eHealth platform, Columna. Columna has six modules, which together represent a complete, integrated clinical workplace. This clinical workplace effectively supports the work of the clinicians. Systematic's Columna solution gives doctors, nurses and secretaries the possibility to register clinical, planning and patient administrative tasks in one solution.

Besides the EMR solution, Systematic has delivered consultancy concerning project management, organisation analysis, modelling, implementation, operation support and training. In that way, Systematic has followed the customer from development of the solution to implementation and commissioning. System security is essential, as it is sensitive personal information that is being communicated to and from a lot of different it systems in the Region. Unauthorised access or change of data can have severe consequences for the patients.

The electronic medical record is a regional solution and is implemented in all the Region’s somatic and psychiatric hospitals except part of the Central Hospital Unit. Last part of the roll out is expected to be finalised within summer 2013. More than 10,000 unique users use the system every day with up to 500,000 registrations per day.

    Mobile access saves time

To expand the clinicians’ access to data, no matter where they are located in the hospital, Systematic has developed a mobile functionality, Columna Mobile. Columna Mobile makes it possible to access data from smart phones, tablets, etc. This saves time, and the patients can benefit from the time saved.

”The mobile patient record is an important step towards making doctors and nurses independent on the computer in the office, so that they instead can spend time with the patients and at the same time have instant access to important information. It helps enhancing the timely and fast treatment, which is particularly crucial for emergency patients, and, therefore, gives an even higher level of patient satisfaction,” says Tommy Midtgaard Jensen, head of the Emergency department at Randers Region Hospital.

On 8 November 2011 TV 2 Østjylland had a piece about Columna on mobile devices. Watch the spot.
