Closing the loop: Systematic puts target nomination in the hands of forward units

Systematic has extended the Joint Fires and Targeting capability in its SitaWare Suite to forward units, enabling mounted and dismounted forces to nominate targets directly into the targeting workflow used by operations and targeting staff. The capability is part of the July release of SitaWare Frontline 3.11, SitaWare Edge 3.11 and SitaWare Headquarters 6.23.

With the update, units in the field can nominate targets from the map or from existing symbols within the operational C2 system. This includes the intelligence collection effort, where assets such as UAVs and electronic warfare systems are frequently the source of newly identified targets, particularly High Value Targets. Each nomination captures location, target type, required effect and timing at the point of observation, and is shared across the tactical network as soon as it is submitted. The target then appears on the staff target list without manual re-entry or translation between systems, removing a handover that has traditionally relied on voice, chat or formatted messages. The capability also supports the identification and prioritization of High Value Targets at unit level.

The release extends the targeting capability introduced earlier this year, which established a structured targeting workflow within SitaWare Headquarters. At the command-post level, the update adds a State Board: a visual overview that organizes targets by processing state, from initiation through approval to completion. Staff can manage the workflow directly from the board and read engagement status at a glance through color-coded target cards, providing immediate visibility of where each target sits in the process.

Further releases will share engagement and processing status back to SitaWare Frontline and SitaWare Edge and enable supporting files to be attached to targets across echelons
