The winner of the Joy of Reading Award will be announced Tuesday June 13 at Dokk1. In that connection, the Danish newspaper Aarhus Stiftstidende has talked with Systematic CEO and the founder of the award Michael Holm about the story behind Joy of Reading and why reading is so important for individual’s well-being and opportunities.

The award strives to promote the joy of reading and fight illiteracy worldwide, and the nominees come from countries like Ghana, South Africa, Burkina Faso, England, Canada and the Netherlands. Michael Holm treasures reading, and he stresses that he would not be the same person today if he were not able to read. With the Joy of Reading Award, he wants to pass on the same opportunities to others:

“As an IT company, we have a responsibility for not only the products and business areas we are engaged in, but we also face a responsibility for the community that we live in. Illiteracy is a vast, global problem, and no matter where you live in the world, reading is a fundamental prerequisite for how you cope with things in so many ways. That is what we want to emphasise with the Joy of Reading Award,” Systematic CEO Michael Holm says to Aarhus Stiftstidende.
