A pop-up warning in the Columna Medicine IT solution from Systematic should prevent drug overdosing in the North Denmark Region, writes Dagens Medicin, a Danish news channel for the health sector.

Doctors in the North Denmark Region (Region Nordjylland) now have access to a new IT function specially designed to help them when selecting the correct dosages of methotrexate for their patients. According to a media report in Dagens Medicin, doctors will now receive a pop-up warning when prescribing methotrexate to a patient.
This new feature of the Systematic Columna Medicine module has been added to reduce the risks of error and overdosing in conjunction with methotrexate, which is often prescribed for patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. For many years, there has been unfortunate confusion between the weekly and daily doses of methotrexate. This has led to serious cases of incorrect medication and, in some cases, fatalities, writes Dagens Medicin.
The region’s previous medicine module made it impossible to build in such pop-up warnings, but in the Columna Medicine IT module a pop-up warning automatically makes doctors aware of the recommended dosages when prescribing methotrexate.
