Supporting all systems with SitaWare Fire Support module
Centralised calculation tool and new logistics overviews bring greater battlefield efficiency
Systematic's latest update for the SitaWare Fire Support module now provides advanced targeting for legacy systems through a centralised calculation tool. Commanders are also able to gain oversight of the ammunition and equipment holdings of indirect fires assets to support improved planning and execution of fires missions.
The new additions to the SitaWare Fire Support module support greater digitalisation of the battlespace, allowing for the enhanced leveraging of combat support assets to help shorten the observe-orient-decide-act (OODA) loop in an off-the-shelf product.
Providing digital solutions to analogue weapons
For militaries fielding non-digitalised indirect fire systems, such as mortars, guns, and howitzers, the lack of data autonomy means that they are more closely tied to a Joint Fires Centre (JFC) for data to support targeting and fires. Using SitaWare Frontline, gunners are now able to send a range of data, such as a GPS-centred location, to a JFC over radio. A firing solution is determined at the JFC using the centralised calculation tool for parameters such as deflection, elevation, fuze settings, together with specified ammunition details, with the data being transmitted back to the gun for manual gun laying.

"Providing this calculation capability for SitaWare Fire Support module users means that there can be better integration of legacy non-digitalised platforms in the support chain. As the modern battlefield is demanding higher mobility to improve survivability, providing digitally calculated fires data to legacy equipment means that assets can redeploy quickly after a fire mission. Increasing the digitalisation of the battlefield also means that there is more accuracy in operational planning and execution, as well as greater situational awareness," says Bo Tang Laerke, Senior Defence Product Manager at Systematic.
Logistics enhancements
The latest updates also include the delivery of ammunition inventory data from guns to JFCs, allowing commanders to gain insights into the holdings of gun teams and how they can deliver effects with increasing levels of accuracy.
"The development of this overview system means that operators in a Joint Fires Cell can focus on providing the best data to a gun crew for a fire mission. Availability of information around the stocks of propellant types, temperature, and lot number, as well as fuzes and shells divided by weight can all have a bearing in how ammunition is delivered onto target. Holdings information is automatically updated after each fire mission. This additional data capability means that operators can provide a proper calculation to the gun teams," added Laerke.
The standardisation of inventory reporting is achieved through the delivery of a template around a network, helping to improve reporting and supporting risk reduction when handling critical data.
