Germany equips frontline soldiers with Danish software
Danish technology plays a key role in the digitalisation of the German Armed Forces – and is now being deployed to frontline units.
Battlefield operations are typically monitored from large screens in military headquarters. But now, German soldiers will bring the digital situational overview with them in the field – via a small display mounted on their chest. It enables troops to report hostile activity and see the exact location of allied forces in near-real time.
As part of the German Army’s digitalisation, the Bundeswehr has signed an agreement with Danish software company Systematic, the developer behind the command-and-control solution SitaWare – used by NATO’s land forces and more than 50 countries worldwide.
Under the new agreement, German troops will be equipped with SitaWare Edge, the mobile version of the system, enabling more effective operations – even in areas with limited connectivity.

Expansion based on proven performance
SitaWare Edge becomes the third pillar in a fully integrated digital command-and-control system already used by the German Army – from headquarters to vehicles, and now to dismounted troops. With Edge, the individual soldier is now connected, giving the entire force access to a shared, real-time operational picture.
“The Bundeswehr already has experience with SitaWare, and their decision to expand its use even further reflects the trust we have built through our cooperation,” says Sven Trusch, Managing Director of Systematic’s German subsidiary.
The agreement also includes a development package, allowing the Bundeswehr to customise and extend the solution with proprietary features and integrations.
Since 2011, the German Armed Forces have gradually expanded their use of the SitaWare suite, which is also used by the German Navy and in soldier training and education programmes. In 2023, the cooperation was formalised through a seven-year maintenance agreement with Systematic.
