Our History

An entrepreneurial dream became Denmark’s largest privately owned software company

In 1985, Systematic had two employees and a single product. Today, Systematic and its 1,200+ employees deliver critical software solutions to a wealth of private and public-sector companies and organisations and to more than 50 countries worldwide.

Timeline

1985

Michael Holm sets up Systematic Software Engineering with Allan Schytt.

1986

Systematic wins its first contract – a command, control and information system for the Royal Danish Navy.

1992

Allan Schytt leaves Systematic after seven years.

1992

Systematic begins to internationalise, and establishes its first foreign office: Systematic Ltd in the UK.

1995

Systematic establishes Systematic Inc. in the USA.

1996

Systematic takes on its 100th employee.

2003

Michael Holm wins the Danish EY Entrepreneur of the Year award.

2003

Systematic is presented with King Frederik IX’s Award for Excellence in Export.

2005

Systematic celebrates its 20th anniversary.

2005

Systematic is CMMI-appraised at Level 5 for the first time.

2007

Systematic opens an office in Finland.

2007

Systematic Software Engineering changes its name to Systematic to emphasise that we don’t just develop software, but also design complete solutions and products for our customers.

2010

Systematic celebrates its 25th anniversary.

2011

Systematic opens an office in Australia.

2012

Systematic opens an office in Germany.

2012

The company’s staff association publishes a portrait book about Michael Holm and Systematic.

2014

Systematic opens an office in the UAE.

2015

Systematic establishes an office in New Zealand.

2016

Systematic establishes an office in Sweden.

2017

Systematic opens an office in Romania.

2017

Systematic lands its largest order to date to the value of USD 222 million for the command-control system SitaWare for the U.S. Department of Defence.

2018

Systematic tops 1,000 employees. This is the first time in more than 20 years that a Danish, privately owned company has grown to this size.

2018

Systematic opens an office in Canada.

2019

Michael Holm is named Owner-Manager of the Year by PwC.

2021 

Systematic expands its headquarters on Søren Frichs Vej in Aarhus with the newly built 14-storey Systematic Tower.

2023

Systematic appoints a new CEO.

Systematic's founder, Michael Holm, resigns from the position after 38 years and assumes the role of Executive Chairman of the Board, focusing on strategy and internationalisation. 

Nikolaj Bramsen, Group Senior Vice President for People & Culture, is appointed as the new CEO of Systematic.

2025

Systematic establishes a new business unit: National Security and Infrastructure (NSI).
