Bliksund and Systematic

An integration between two health solutions to ensure smooth patient flows for the Danish pre-hospital care sector

Better patient treatment between incident site and A&E department

The Danish pre-hospital care sector is getting an integrated solution that ensures smooth patient flows with efficient communication and the secure sharing of patient data with Bliksund’s Emergency Worker Assistant (EWA) and Danish electronic health records.

    The solution offers paramedics:

    • online video consultation with chat function so that medical specialists can document directly from the incident site.
    • a clear overview of the patient’s medical history with access to journal data in real-time.
    • flexible collection of patient data at the incident site and in the ambulance, which is automatically transferred to the hospital.

    An integrated solution that ensures:

    Smooth patient flows across sectors

All data gathered in one place to provide a complete overview of the patient’s medical history.

    Effective communication

Paramedics can live-stream vital parameters from the incident site and consult with specialists.

    Situational awareness at accident sites

Emergency team leaders get an overview and the tools they need to coordinate between pre-hospital and the emergency units.

Minimises the risk of error while increasing patient safety

The pre-hospital care unit looks after the injured and seriously ill from the moment 112 is dialled until the patient has been treated or been received at a regional A&E department or municipal emergency room. To ensure a smooth patient flow and a safe transfer from the ambulance to the A&E department or emergency room, it is important that the health personnel can communicate effectively and share information with each other across sectors.

This is exactly what a combined solution can offer the Danish pre-hospital care sector.

The solution offers a simplified overview of relevant regional and municipal journal data, thus giving paramedics insight into the patient’s medical history. Armed with the right patient information, the paramedics can make decisions faster and on a well-founded basis, which ultimately improves patient safety.

    Ensures smooth patient flows

The solution receives relevant data about the patient’s condition from the ambulance’s monitoring devices. Thus, most of the paramedics’ documentation of the patient’s status and treatment is automated, allowing them to concentrate on the patient.

At the same time, data is automatically transferred from the ambulance to the patient’s electronic health record so that health personnel in the regional A&E department or municipal emergency room are always well-informed and prepared to receive the patient.

The solution ensures that no data is lost during transfer from the ambulance to the A&E ward/emergency room and that patients experience smoother and safer treatment.

Relieves pressure on A&E departments and emergency rooms

In addition to improving the transfer from ambulance to A&E department or emergency room, experience from Norway shows that the solution makes it possible to handle more patients as effectively at home or at the incident site, resulting in fewer hospital admissions.

The solution allows paramedics to consult with a medical specialist via live chat. The specialist can advise on treatment and decide whether the patient should be admitted to the hospital or treated at the incident site. Bliksund has just launched a new video function for EWA, enabling paramedics to give the medical specialist a better idea of the situation directly from the incident site.

In this way, the paramedics have everything they need to offer precise and safe treatment at the incident site, which at the end of the day helps to take the pressure off hospital A&E departments and local emergency rooms.

Best of two worlds in a single solution

Bliksund has many years of experience in supporting pre-hospital care units. When Norway’s regional authorities needed a new patient record system for the pre-hospital care sector in 2019, Bliksund won the tender. The solution has been created by paramedics for paramedics, and it has been widely recognised for its ability to support pre-hospital care procedures.

Systematic’s solutions have been developed to support procedures for service personnel, nurses, doctors, therapists and social workers across different sectors and areas of responsibility. Systematic offers an open platform which supports a comprehensive health service and promotes digital transparency in all parts of the health journey – whether in hospital, at a nursing home or at home. We have more than 20 years of experience in implementing regional as well as municipal health solutions that comply with national standards and can be integrated with national platforms.

We have brought together the best of two worlds—specialists in pre-hospital care procedures and specialists in the Danish health service. Together, we are strengthening Danish pre-hospital care and ensuring an integrated health service.
