Systematic delivers Denmark’s first AI-ready command-and-control system for NATO counter-drone defence

Copenhagen, Denmark – Systematic has been awarded a contract by the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) to deliver an AI-ready command-and-control (C2) capability for counter-drone defence - marking the first known contract by a NATO member for C2 ready to integrate AI-supported analysis.

The solution will support decision-making and analyses throughout the complete decision cycle, enabling military and civilian agencies to operate on a common operational picture.

The capability will be deployed across Denmark, integrating Systematic’s SitaWare Suite with existing counter-drone systems to support co-ordinated decision-making.

The Danish Defence Intelligence Service has warned of an increase in Russian hybrid warfare activities against Western countries, including the use of drones. Recent incidents have included reported drone activity near Germany’s Leipzig/Halle Airport in August and continual violations of NATO airspace, including incidents over Latvia, Estonia and neighbouring Norway.

The Systematic SitaWare solution will integrate sensor information, command and control, operational data and personnel to support the detection, assessment and response.

SitaWare Headquarters will provide an oversight of counter-drone activity across sites and military domains. SitaWare Insight’s AI-supported analysis of historical and near-real-time data will be used to identify patterns, anomalies and potential threats.

Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO, Systematic, said: “The nature of warfare is changing, and drones are now an everyday part of the threat environment. The answer is not simply more sensors or more individual systems. It is the ability to connect information, understand what it means and act on it quickly.

“This programme demonstrates what happens when trusted operational data, command and control and AI are brought together in one environment. It is an important step for Denmark and an important demonstration of how European defence can turn AI into an operational capability”.

Lieutenant General Per Pugholm Olsen, Chief of DALO, said: "The agreement with Systematic is another step in building a strong and coherent capability to handle drone threats. It is essential that the Armed Forces can work from a common situational picture, so that the Armed Forces have the best possible conditions to detect and respond to potential threats”.

The new capability will integrate Systematic’s SitaWare software with Terma’s OSL counter-drone system contract announced earlier this summer, allowing sensor information to be brought into a common, operational picture in near real time.

The announcement comes as NATO accelerates efforts to strengthen counter-drone capabilities with the ability to adopt AI across defence. It also supports multinational formations such as the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), enabling forces from different nations to operate together and share information seamlessly across domains.
