The Australian Department of Defence selects Systematic's SitaWare Headquarters for the first tranche of Army’s next-generation Battle Management System

Systematic's SitaWare Headquarters has been selected for the first tranche of Army's next-generation Battle Management System (BMS).

On 19 June 2026, the Australian Department of Defence signed a contract with Systematic as the supplier for the first tranche of the country's new BMS. The contract forms part of the ambitious LAND 4140 Program intent to conduct continuous modernisation of the Land Command, Control, Communications and Computing Capability. Systematic's Defence solution, SitaWare Headquarters, will now be rolled out to Army to support their critical command and control (BMS Critical C2) needs.

The partnership began in 2021 when the Australian Army trialed SitaWare Headquarters. The system was first employed during Exercise Talisman Sabre, Australia's largest military exercise, and has since supported a range of Army activities and multinational training events.

"The Australian Army identified a requirement for a secure and battle-proven system. After five years of use with a consistently strong performance, the system has contributed to the Army’s ongoing consideration of its future battle management capability." says Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic.

SitaWare Headquarters is used by more than 50 nations worldwide, including all Five Eyes partners. In 2024, NATO selected SitaWare Headquarters as the standard for its land operations, further strengthening interoperability between allied forces.

Partnering with Systematic allows Australian forces to operate alongside key al-lies while maintaining sovereign control over their own data.

Growing demand for coalition-ready software

The Australian Defence Force is investing heavily in modern command and control capabilities as it prepares to operate more effectively across joint and coalition environments.

To support this growing demand, Systematic has continued to expand its Australian presence, with 35 employees to provide local engineering, support and program delivery capabilities across the country.

Opening up further opportunities across the region

The same requirements that drove the Australian Army's decision are increasingly being seen across the region, creating further opportunities for coalition-ready, sovereign command-and-control capabilities.
