Eight Copenhagen-area municipalities sign joint contract for digital care records

EU tender worth DKK 100 million secures digital care records for 300,000 residents across the capital region.

Eight municipalities in the greater Copenhagen area, covering 300,000 residents in total, have completed an EU tender process and signed an agreement with software company Systematic to continue and expand their use of the care record system Columna Cura across their elderly care, health, and social care services.

The contract is estimated at DKK 100 million and runs from May 2027 for six years, with an option to extend by a further four.

Columna Cura is the digital system that municipal health and social care staff use to document, plan, and coordinate their work with residents, from home care to social care casework. Today, 36 of Denmark's 98 municipalities use the system, together covering half the Danish population.

The tender was run by the Greater Copenhagen Digitalisation Association (Den Storkøbenhavnske Digitaliseringsforening, DSD) and initially involved four suppliers. Three advanced to the final round.

AI development and automated workflows included

The municipalities placed particular emphasis on a future-proof solution with AI support. The system includes automated route planning, which helps both planners and visiting staff by suggesting the most efficient sequence of resident visits. Upcoming features include voice recognition and AI-generated summaries, which will make it easier for staff to document their work and stay up to date with each resident's current situation.

"Systematic won the tender for the electronic care record because they will deliver the best quality for the price. It is clear to us that they offer a system that gives our healthcare staff an easy and user-friendly tool that meets our needs for smoothly planning, documenting, and getting an overview of daily tasks, so our staff can spend less time at the screen and more time with residents," says Kenneth Møller Johansen, Head of Secretariat at DSD, who led the tender process.

Long-term partnerships make it easier to adapt IT solutions to users' needs

For Systematic, the agreement is an important part of a collaboration that has been ongoing for many years between the company and its Danish municipal customers.

"We are very pleased that the eight municipalities in the DSD tender have chosen Cura following a thorough evaluation of the market. We want a long-term collaboration and partnership with our municipalities, and we see this as a recognition of our ongoing work to develop and adapt the solution in close dialogue with them," says Henrik Rosenberg Rasmussen, Senior Director at Systematic Healthcare.
